Our Story
Our story began in July 2003
Back in 2003, before online shopping was common, we (Chris & Kate, a mother-and-daughter team) launched The Nappy Shop with one goal: to make it easier for parents to get quality nappies, baby wipes, and other baby essentials without the stress of constant supermarket trips.
In those early days, there were only a handful of nappy, wipe, and change cream brands available in Australia. Over the years, our range has grown to include the widest selection of quality nappies, baby wipes, and nappy-changing accessories, and we continue to add trusted brands and innovative products to our collection.
We also saw a gap in the market: Australian parents had no access to eco-friendly disposable nappies, even though they were widely available in the USA, UK, and Europe. We were proud to be the first shop in Australia to offer eco-friendly disposable nappies, giving parents a choice that’s kinder to the planet and gentle for babies.
How Our Fast Free Delivery Evolved
As mums, we’ve lost count of the number of times we were down to the last few nappies and had to make a mad dash to the supermarket — baby in tow — only to lug home bulky boxes or packs along with other groceries.
We thought, “If only there was a shop that delivered nappies, wipes, and all the nappy-changing essentials straight to your door, fast, quietly, and without waking the baby!”
That’s exactly what we created. At first, phone orders rolled in. When online shopping took off, we expanded our fast, free delivery service of nappies, wipes, and baby essentials Australia-wide. Today, most Sydney and Adelaide orders arrive the next day, with just a little longer for other states.
Growing With Our Customers
August 2018 – After 15 years on Burke Road, Kew, we outgrew our retail shop and moved to a larger warehouse in Braeside, Melbourne, to focus on growing our online business. We also introduced No-Contact Pick Up for local customers.
November 2021 – Moved 5km down the road to an even bigger warehouse in Chelsea Heights to keep up with growing demand and launched Babylux, our own premium range of nappies, nappy pants, wipes, and baby essentials designed for busy Australian families.
August 2023 – The Nappy Shop is still proudly owned and operated by Chris & Kate. Kate manages the business day-to-day, while Chris enjoys semi-retirement, helping out part-time.
