Make Your Mum’s Mothers Day - With Things She (Actually) Wants!

Mother's Day is just around the corner, and it's time to start thinking about how you can make your special person's day and give back for all they have done for you. Usually including having changed your nappy at some point (keep this in mind and spoil accordingly). Forget the usual flowers and chocolates – here are some things that will show them you really care.

Breakfast in Bed – Phone it in

Instead of the traditional breakfast in bed that the kids have created, surprise your mum with something edible. UberEats her a cracking brekkie from the local café and her favourite coffee. Mums do love the effort the kids put in, but sometimes eating a child-prepared meal is less than the best way to wake up on a Sunday morning!

    Time

Parents generally feel like they are too busy all of the time (usually because they are) so just hanging out with the people they love doing things they love to do (this is important, it does not count if the activity is something for you) If your loved one likes to garden or spend time shopping or get their nails done. Do it with them. Sharing things they love with those they love is a sensational gift for anyone.

    Photos just for them

Create a photo album filled with old photos and memories of you and your mum or special person. It is so rare that people have photos printed and put into a real album and there is nothing like reminiscing about all of the fun you guys have had over the years to really make their day. Adding funny captions and notes to make her laugh will bring even more joy, on the day (and whenever they look at the album over the years).

Create a "Mum's Day Off" Kit

This brings together all of the joy of receiving a hamper (who doesn’t love a hamper?) and the promise of future joy on the scheduled day (it doesn’t need to be on Mothers Day). Put together a kit filled with things to help your mum relax and unwind on a day off, think, scented candles, chocolates, maybe a book they would like, bath salts, face mask (wine?). This is the perfect gift to encourage busy mums and carers to take some time for some self-care on a well-deserved day off.

    Virtual Cooking Class

There are thousands of online cooking classes from tasty Thai food to delicious desserts. Sign the both of you up and make a new recipe together. It's a fun activity, a great way to bond and will no doubt lead to lots of mess and laughter, all from the comfort of your own kitchen.

    Get Crafty

Unlike with food, homemade gifts are always a joy to receive. From when parents get their first kinder drawing until forever, they will love whatever their kids create, this doesn’t mean you can’t help push them in the right direction with a handy jewellery-making kit or just some jazzy paper for a special homemade card for them to work with!

Think outside the box and give your mum a gift that's as unique and special as she is and she will be overjoyed (and maybe surprised). Even if you forget to get a gift, I am sure a hug will do just fine!
