If you’ve got a newborn baby on the way, taking the time to establish a nursery optimised for sleep will save you a huge amount of stress in the future. With sleep training a crucial part of raising a happy and healthy child, forging excellent habits from a young age ensures they find getting a good night’s rest a little easier. Check out these straightforward tips for designing your nursery to make sure everyone in the house achieves quality sleep.
Darkness is critical
While you might be drawn towards creating a picture-perfect nursery, you must focus your attention on creating the darkest space possible. With light poking it around the blinds potentially interrupting your baby’s sleep, you should install high-quality blackout curtains that minimise any light entering the room. With darkness fostering melatonin production, this ensures your child gets outstanding rest.
You must regulate the temperature
As the seasons change, you must have the ability to control the nursery’s temperature. With research finding that babies get the ideal sleep between 18 and 21 degrees, a split air conditioning system makes it easy to maintain this temperature without the risk of overheating. Meanwhile, you should remain highly conscious of how your baby is dressed for bedtime to avoid any health concerns.
Avoid blue light
With the visible light spectrum operating at various wavelengths, avoiding products on the blue end of this spectrum will help your baby get better sleep. With blue light known to foster alertness, installing these lights in your baby nursery isn’t a good idea. While many products produce blue light, including televisions and smartphones, fluorescent and LED bulbs can also cause problems. With this in mind, always research the lights that you plan to position in your baby's room.
Include a rocking chair
No matter what design decisions you make for your baby nursery, your child is bound to wake up at some point in the middle of the night. As you’ll have to comfort them to get them back to sleep, placing a rocking chair in the room helps lull them into a deep snooze in rapid time. This way, your baby will enjoy a great night’s rest while you also won’t be so tired when the morning arrives.
