Buckle yourself in – the best in Aussie Car Games - The Nappy Shop

Ah, the joy of the great Aussie road trip. Endless highways, the occasional kangaroo sighting, and more roadkill than you can poke a stick at (please don’t poke it with a stick). But, staring at gum trees gets old pretty quick  – so here are some cracking car games to keep your kids entertained (and off their iPads) for a bit.

    Spot the Ute

Let’s kick things off with a classic Aussie pastime – Ute spotting. The rules are simple: each time you see a ute, yell “UTE!” at the top of your lungs. The first person to call it gets a point. 50 points for the win.

20 Questions – Deadly or Deadlier

Nothing beats the suspense of 20 Questions. But put a twist on it – the answer must be either poisonous or extremely dangerous. It's a great way to appreciate the sheer amount of deadly fauna Australia has gifted the world.

    Guess the accent

Everyone has a favourite accent and kids just love any kind of funny voice. So take turns trying out your best accents. The rest of the family has to guess the country. Once you get it right everyone has to do their best version. Go British, French, and if you’re game, a good ol’ Kiwi accent. It will get rowdy, but the kids will think it is hilarious.

    Personalized Bingo

Before you hit the road, make everyone pick five things they expect to see on the trip: kangaroo roadkill, a dog in the back of a ute, a windmill, dodgy truck stops, or a B- double truck. Every time you see one, you get a point. It is important to choose your five things carefully, the more likely the better, and make sure everyone has different things to look for.

    Rainbow car

Another classic, everyone races to be the first to spot cars in every colour of the rainbow.  Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet in case you can’t remember. Also, there is usually a bit of conjecture about indigo, so best to swap it out for pink.

    From the passenger seat

There you have it – the ultimate guide to Aussie car games for road trip survival! Try these on your next adventure and remember, the journey might be long, but the memories (and mild trauma) will last a lifetime. Enjoy the road, the laughs, and don’t forget to stop at that Big Pineapple.
