Detailed Product Information
Bambo Nature
Nappies are made with the environment in mind through an eco
friendly manufacturing process using biodegradable materials
making the nappy over 75% biodegradable. This means the
middle part of the nappy will biodegrade in an active
compost system. The new improved nappy design ensures
quality absorbency and maximum freedom of movement for
baby.

Nappy rash
Unlike
standard disposable nappies, Bambo Nature contain no
perfumes, lotions, deodorants or antioxidants, and they are
100% chlorine free and latex free, so they are much less
likely to cause an allergic reaction. The Eczema
Association of Australia has featured Bambo Nature nappies
in their newsletter, and recommends them to parents of
babies with eczema. Parents should always change a
dirty nappy as soon as possible, and it’s a good idea to let
baby have some ‘nappy free’ time every day.
Gels (SAPs)
Bambo Nature
nappies contain a small amount of two kinds of SAPs, one of
which is a starch based bio-superabsorbent which is 100%
biodegradable. The second is a high quality, permeable
superabsorbent made of acrylic polymer. The manufacturer,
Abena, is currently working with suppliers to use only a
starch based bio-superabsorbent, while still maintaining
their excellent quality standards.
SAPs are
necessary to ensure that nappies are absorbent, without
being bulky. A nappy that did not contain SAPs would be
bulky, meaning more landfill, and would not have the same
ability to keep baby dry. You would need to use more
nappies, and in turn, create more waste. SAPs
are approved by the FDA. As with all products, as the
technology improves, manufacturers are able to use more
environmentally friendly alternatives.
Biodegradability & Disposal
Approximately 75% of a Bambo
Nature nappy is biodegradable, compared to 35% for a
standard disposable. You can reduce the eco footprint
of your Bambo Nature disposable nappy even further, by
composting. By composting your nappy and removing the
non-biodegradable parts, you will reduce the volume of waste
going into landfill. Please note that you should only
compost wet nappies in a home compost.
You can
compost the nappies in two ways. Place the whole of the
nappy into your compost bin, let the biodegradable parts
break down, and then remove the non biodegradable parts
before you spread the compost on your garden. Alternatively,
you can separate the core of the nappy from the outer layer
and place the biodegradable core into your compost bin. The
outer can then go into your rubbish bin, and having removed
the bulk, you're contributing a lot less to landfill.
Although there are no environmentally harmful ingredients in
Bambo Nature nappies, we wouldn't recommend that you use
this compost on vegetables or herbs (this also goes for
compost that has newspaper or any printed matter in it).
Nordic Swan Eco Label
All of
the Bambo products have been awarded the Nordic Swan Eco
Label, the official Scandinavian environmental logo for
eco-products. This means state-of-the-art manufacturing
process, and raw materials making up the products are
assured to have minimal environmental impact.
Bambo Nature Sizing
Babies come in all different shapes and sizes and they all
eat and drink different quantities. You may find that
although your
baby is still within the recommended weight range for the
size, the next size up is more absorbent, which is
especially important at night.
There is an
overlap in sizes in the larger nappies to take into account
that as babies grow, there can be a much bigger discrepancy
in ages and shapes, which may mean that one 13kg baby is
fine in the maxi size, but another 13kg baby needs the maxi
plus.
We find the
optimum weight ranges are:
• Newborn:
from birth to around 3.5kgs
• Mini: from approximately 3.5kgs to around 5kgs
• Midi: from 5kgs to just under 9kgs
• Maxi: from around 8 1/2 kgs to around 13kgs
• Maxi plus: from around 13kgs
• Junior and XL plus: from around 15kgs
• Training pants come in 14kgs plus and 18kgs plus, but do
tend to run on the small side.
